The Carlos Zapata Scholarships aim to support students with high intellectual abilities and limited financial resources, facilitating their access to official master’s degree programs in scientific and technological fields.
The Carlos Zapata Scholarships are aimed at students with high intellectual abilities who have completed their university studies or are in the process of gaining admission to an official master’s degree in Spain, in scientific or technological fields such as neuroscience, engineering, biomedicine, physics, mathematics, or other related disciplines.
The call is specifically aimed at students with high academic performance and limited financial resources, with the goal of facilitating their access to high-quality postgraduate studies.
Applicants may apply for the scholarship if they meet the following requirements:
Hold a university degree that qualifies the applicant for admission to a master’s program.
Have been admitted or be in the process of admission to an official university master’s program.
Demonstrate high intellectual abilities (IQ of 120 or above).
Have a strong academic record.
Demonstrate insufficient financial resources, with a family income below four times the current IPREM (except in duly justified exceptional circumstances).
Not receive other financial aid covering the same academic expenses.
Fully accept the terms and the decisions of the Selection Committee.
The scholarship will exclusively cover the academic costs of the master’s program, specifically the tuition fee for the program of study.
The application period will run from April 1 to July 15, 2026, inclusive.

Applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted, except in duly justified cases approved by the Selection Committee.
Applications must include the following documentation:
Completed application form.
Identification document (DNI, NIE, or equivalent).
University degree certificate or proof of application.
Official academic transcript with grades.
Letter of admission or pre-admission to the master’s program.
Academic curriculum vitae.
Personal and academic statement of purpose.
Documentation certifying high intellectual abilities (IQ).
Documentation demonstrating financial status (tax return, income certificates, or other supporting documents).
Any other relevant documentation that may be requested by the Selection Committee.
Applications will be evaluated by a Selection Committee appointed by the Institute, in accordance with the following criteria:
Academic merit
Scientific potential
Economic and social circumstances
Motivation and fit with the program
In the event of a tie, priority will be given to the candidate’s financial situation.
The personal data provided by applicants will be processed in accordance with current data protection regulations and will be used exclusively for the management of the scholarship call.
The Zapata-Briceño Institute of Neuroscience will take the necessary measures to ensure the confidentiality, security, and proper use of the information, which will not be used for purposes other than those related to the selection process and management of the scholarships.
